Abbey Lea – An introduction

Based in Barlby, close to the market town of Selby, North Yorkshire, Abbey Lea is a homely Residential Care Home nestled amongst a beautiful landscaped garden and courtyard.

Nineteen single bedrooms and two shared rooms provide long term EMI care services for 23 elderly male and female residents.

Your manager, Beverly Emmett, ensures life at Abbey Lea is homely and happy. She leads by example, a hands-on manager, proud of her ‘Excellent’ care commission report and privileged to be looking after her clients.

Specialising in dementia and old age care, staff at Abbey Lea are committed to enabling our residents to live the life they want, providing them with the support, care and encouragement they need. Families and partners are encouraged to be involved in as much of home life as possible. We like to work as part of a team with the client and families as they know their loved ones the best!

Photo montages adorn the walls, showing trips of bowling, fancy dress and summer fairs enjoyed by all and memory boards outside bedrooms help residents with their orientation.

The grand entrance and hallway along with two lounges provide the hub of the home they are complimented by a bright dining room with French doors that can open out onto the newly developed garden and patio area. Care staffs are always on hand for support or a chat to clients, visitors and families. Activities for all are regularly held here including Movement to Music, Tia Chi, aromatherapy and gardening.

Bedrooms and bathrooms have a homely feel and many have views of the courtyard or the garden. Abbey Lea is a home where residents continue to enjoy life and maintain their independence.

Meals are home cooked to a high standard and are presented well.

Beverly your manager at Abbey Lea is a firm believer in the input of the family, always involving them in decisions and social activities. She is also keen to offer as much training as possible to staff, knowing the more knowledge, understanding they gain will enable the staff to be more confident within their role to deliver a high standard of care. She strongly encourages a wide range of activity and stimulation – from growing potatoes in the garden to group trips, team trips ten pin bowling, one to one activities which are person centred to the individual – thoroughly promoting residents well being.
